The Department of English, Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor, believes in nurturing learners beyond academics through platforms that encourage creativity, leadership and social responsibility.

Art-Try and Agape are two distinct initiatives of the Department that channel student potential in meaningful ways — one celebrating artistic and literary talent, and the other fostering empathy and community engagement.

Art-Try

Celebrating Creativity & Individual Talent

Art-Try is the Department’s initiative dedicated to identifying, nurturing and showcasing the individual talents of students. Envisioned as a vibrant creative platform, it encourages learners to express themselves through literature, arts, performance and creative engagement.

The initiative provides opportunities for students to explore their interests, build confidence and actively participate in artistic and literary activities that enrich campus life and personal growth.

Agape

Serving Communities with Compassion

Agape is the community service initiative of the Department that instils empathy, social commitment and responsible citizenship among students. Rooted in the spirit of compassion and care, the initiative encourages learners to engage meaningfully with society through outreach and service-oriented activities.

Through Agape, students learn the value of collective responsibility, kindness and social awareness while contributing positively to communities around them.

Featured Initiative

Summer Camp for School Students (May 2026)

AGAPE, the Community Service Wing of the Department of English, organised a Summer Camp for students aged 11–16 from 13 to 22 May 2026 in association with the Central Library & IIELT.

The camp provided training in Basics of English Grammar, Reading & Comprehension and Basics of Computer Applications, combining language learning with digital literacy through interactive and activity-based sessions.

The programme also offered departmental students valuable opportunities for peer teaching, leadership and community engagement, reflecting the Department’s commitment to socially responsible learning.
