Fostering Research Excellence: The English Research Forum
In 2018, the Department of English at Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor, launched a groundbreaking initiative, the English Research Forum, with the mission of promoting academic excellence and research among its students. This forum has since become a Best Practice within the department, offering a platform for student paper presentations and facilitating student publications. In just a few short years, it has seen 25 student presentations and 3 student publications, marking its remarkable success in nurturing scholarly talent.
Over the past five years, the English Research Forum has evolved into a cornerstone of the department’s academic community. It has provided students and teachers with a unique opportunity to present their research papers, engage in meaningful discussions and publish their works.
Student Paper Presentations
The English Research Forum hosts meetings where students present their research papers. These presentations cover a wide spectrum of topics within the field of English studies, including literature, cultural studies, and interdisciplinary projects. The 25 presentations made by undergraduate students have demonstrated the depth and breadth of their academic exploration. These presentations offer students a valuable opportunity to hone their public speaking abilities, defend their ideas, and gain constructive feedback, which is essential for their intellectual growth.
Student Publications
One of the unique features of the English Research Forum is its support for student publications. The department provides resources and mentorship to students to help them transition from presenting research to publishing it in respected journals and publications.
While the 25 presentations are a testament to the quality of student research, the 3 student publications, including one in an international journal, and 2 in UGC-indexed journals, stand out as an exceptional achievement. These publications reflect the outstanding research work undertaken by students, as well as the department’s commitment to nurturing and recognizing their academic contributions on a broader scale. These published works contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of English studies.
The English Research Forum, functions as a platform for students to explore their research interests, present their findings, and publish their works. This initiative is a testament to the Department’s commitment to nurturing scholarly talent and fostering a vibrant academic community.
