DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

Mathematics Association 2021-22 was inaugurated on 1st October 2021 by Dr. Sunny Kuriakose A., Chief Administrator & Dean, MBITS, Kothamangalam. Dr. Lisy Cherian, Former Pricipal and Head, Department of Mathematics, Marthoma College for Women, Perumbavoor delivered felicitation speech in the meeting. An interesting webinar on “Learning Mathematics in a Different Perspective” was also conducted through Google meet.

Department conducted onam celebration “Karuthalil e-onam” on 24th August 2021 which was inaugurated by Dr. Gigi George HoD, Department of Mathematics and coordinated by the students of II DC and II PG Mathematics. Inter departmental competitions like Malayali Manga, Athappokkalam and Onam Kavitha Rachana were also conducted.

Department published the manuscript magazine ‘GOOGOL’ for the academic year 2020-21 on 26 March 2021.
Department honoured Dr. Shalitha Jacob for acquiring Ph.D. in Statistics for her thesis ‘Some New Probability Models and their Application in Risk Modelling’ from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
National Mathematics Day was celebrated on 22 December 2020 via google meet which was inaugurated by Dr. Gigi George, Principal-in-Charge, HoD of Mathematics, Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor. Logo Designing, Poster making and Math teacher competitions were conducted. Attractive gifts and e-certificates were distributed for the winners.
Department of Mathematics & IQAC conducted a National webinar on the topic “Research Areas in Graph Theory” on 05/08/2020. The resource person for the webinar was Dr. Aparna Lakshmanan S., Research Guide and Assistant Professor, St. Xavier’s college for Women, Aluva. Active participation of 34 Research Scholors, 68 faculty and 56 students made the webinar more successful.
Inauguration of Mathematics Association 2020-21 was held on 12th November 2020 and was inaugurated by Dr.Ambat Vijayakumar , Emeritus Professor, Department of Mathematics, Cusat. An interesting webinar on “Excitements and challenges in Mathematics” was also conducted through google meet.
A spellbinding talk on the topic ‘Applications of Matrices in Statistics ’ was organized on August 02 , 2019 in association with the inauguration of Mathematics Association LAHENDUS 2K19. The resource person was Dr. Sandhya E, Associate Professor, Department of Statistics, Prajyothi Niketan College ,Puthukad. A flashmob programme including all the students of the department was conducted.

In association with Kerala Mathematical Association a two day workshop on “Numerical Analysis using PYTHON 3” was organized on 3,4 January 2020 for the postgraduate students. Dr. Sunny Kuriakose, Dean of FISAT, Academic Secretary KMA and Dr. Paul Isaac, General Secretary KMA was the chief guest. Dr. Sreeraj R, Head, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Royal College of Engineering and Technology Akkikavu, Thrissur was the resource person. Faculties and students of various colleges attended the workshop and certificates were distributed

PG students of the department conducted an online revision series for plus two students based on ‘Focus Areas in Mathematics’ from 7th February 2021 on all Sundays at 3 pm, in which 17 students of various schools registered and utilized the opportunity well.
The Department conducted Interdepartmental Competitions in connection with Reading week, Independence Day and Keralappiravi Celebrations. Most of the Departments actively participated and won prizes.
Students of the department organized a webinar series ‘Saga of Mathematics’ from 10th February 2021 to 10th March 2021 on all wednesdays.
The Department conducts ‘NET Coaching’ for PG students on all Wednesdays from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm in which 10 of our students are attending.
The Department conducts PSC/SSC/RRB/Bank exams coaching “PROJECT ENJUVADI” for the students on every week.
The Department conducts Association Meetings on all Wednesdays at 1.00 pm in which students of each of the classes conduct activities based on topics in Mathematics.
