The Women’s Cell unit of Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor was spearheaded by Ms. Sangeetha Rachel Koruth, Assistant Professor of the Department of English. The administrative works were done by the office bearers Ms. Akila Ann Zachariah, Sharon Sara Thomas ( Secretaries) Bhavana. S, Niranjana and Safiya T ( Under Secretaries). The unit along with other organisations conducted various programmes that aided to expound the notion of women empowerment.
Induction programme to Diploma course in Beauty Parlour and Management
On 14 November 2023, Women’s Cell conducted an Induction Programme under “Samvardhana” of IQAC in “Diploma Course in Beauty Parlour & Management”. The resource person of the programme was Ms. Sini T S, Beauty Consultant, Ashna Beauty Parlour, Onnam mile, Perumbavoor. The programme was conducted to give awareness on benefits of undertaking the course in beauty parlour and management under the aegis of IHRD. The session was very useful for the students who wish to undertake entrepreneurship in beauty parlour. IQAC coordinator, Dr. Anupama P and Women’s Cell convenor Lt. Dr. Sangeetha Rachel Koruth also spoke to the students.
Diploma in Beauty Parlour and Management
As part of women empowerment and welfare mission of the college- “Sansidhi”, the Women’s Cell of the college offered Government approved Diploma course in “Beauty Parlour and Management” under IHRD. The duration of the course is 4-6 months. The classes are held on every Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m by a beauty consultant. The course fees is Rs. 3000. The course will help the women in enhancing their skills and owning an independent business.
Workshop on “Education and Healthy Living”
On 23 & 24 February 2023, 2 days workshop on “Education & Healthy Living” was conducted in association with IQAC. The programme was conducted in collaboration with “Ayushmanbhava Project”, Government District Homeopathy Hospital, Ernakulam. The workshop was conducted for the entire staff . The workshop was led by Dr. Sagar, NAM Medical Officer and Dr. Nithin C.S, Naturopathy Medical Officer. They took sessions on the importance of education in leading a healthy living. Educational attainment predisposes a person to experience more positive health outcomes both in their ability to navigate their own healthcare and to make positive decisions related to personal health behaviors. Yoga classes were also provided by the Yoga Trainer, Ms. Fathima Shaji. Different Yoga postures were taught to improve mental well-being. The resource person spoke on importance of Yoga in boosting alertness and enthusiasm. The workshop was very beneficial and teachers could impart this knowledge to the students.
Workshop on “Fundamentals of Stitching and Designing”
On 8 March 2023, as part of Women’s Day Celebrations, Women’s Cell conducted a workshop on “Fundamentals of Stitching and Designing”. The workshop was led by Ms. Sony T James , faculty of B.Voc Fashion Technology and Merchandising, Mar Thoma College For Women. The students were able to learn stitching and basic lessons of sewing. They made towels on their own and made beautiful designs on them. Students acquired basic sewing skills to do alterations and repairs.
Workshop On “Fundamentals Of Grooming”
On 30 March 2023, Women’s cell in association with Department of B.Voc Tourism and Hospitality Management conducted a workshop on ‘Fundamentals of Grooming’. The resource person for the workshop was Ms. Sini Linson, Beauty Consultant. The training on grooming skills can help the students to become self- confident in meeting the expectations of elegant appearance demanded by most of the jobs. The students will also be able to have an understanding of how to make it into a career or how to create better and unique cosmetic looks.
