Staff Structure

  • Club Coordinator (Faculty): Oversee the overall functioning of the club and ensure alignment with the educational objectives.
  • Assistant Club Coordinators (Faculty):
    • Assist with organizing literary events, competitions, and workshops.
    • Guide students in improving their writing and critical thinking.
  • Club President (Student Leader): Lead the club, organize activities, and represent the club at college events.
  • Vice President (Student Leader): Assist the President in managing the club’s activities and take over in their absence.
  • General Secretary (Student Leader): Maintain records of events, manage communications, and oversee club membership.
  • Creative Writing Heads (Student Volunteers): Lead the creative writing initiatives, workshops, and competitions.
  • Literary Event Coordinators (Student Volunteers): Organize events such as poetry readings, debates, book clubs, and literary festivals.
  • Media and Public Relations Team (Student Volunteers): Handle publicity for the club’s events through social media, posters, and flyers.

Major Activities

  • Book Club Sessions: Regular meetings for book discussions, where students read and analyze books across genres, both fiction and non-fiction.
  • Poetry Reading and Writing Workshops: Sessions where students write and present their poems. Workshops may be conducted by faculty or guest poets to improve poetic skills.
  • Creative Writing Competitions: Organizing competitions for short stories, essays, and poetry with themes related to contemporary issues or classical topics.
  • Literary Debates: Host debates on various literary, cultural, or current affairs topics to encourage critical thinking and public speaking skills.
  • Author Interactions and Guest Lectures: Inviting authors, poets, and literary critics to speak with students about their work and the literary world.
  • Drama and Storytelling: Organizing drama and storytelling sessions, where students can enact famous literary works or create original pieces.

  • Film and Literature Screening: Screening film adaptations of famous books followed by discussions on the similarities and differences between the literary works and their cinematic portrayals.

Time Schedule

  • Weekly Meetings: Every Monday and Wednesday, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Regular meetings for creative writing, book discussions, planning upcoming events, training sessions, practice debates and speech evaluations.

  • Workshops and Competitions: Last Friday of every month, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: A focused workshop on writing techniques, poetry, or debates, followed by competitions, debate competitions or public speaking challenges.
  • Literary Club Events: First Thursday of every month, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Special events like poetry readings, debates, and guest speaker sessions.
  • Collaborative Events: Every alternate Friday, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Collaborative sessions with other clubs like Drama Club, Film Club, and Music Club to explore interdisciplinary themes.
  • Magazine Publication Meetings: Bi-monthly, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Meetings to discuss the literary magazine and prepare submissions.
  • Annual Flagship Event: February 2026, full-day event.
  • Special Workshops: Twice per semester, 2:45 PM – 4:30 PM.

Language & Literary Club Activities 2024-25 at a Glance

The Language and Literary Club, under the leadership of Convenor Minu Susan Koshy and assistant coordinators Mrs. Elizabeth Renu, Mr. Jibin Shibu Sam, and Dr. Jijo Jayarajan, played a crucial role in enhancing students’ linguistic and literary skills. he Language and Literary Club commenced its activities on January 20, 2025, with an introductory session on club activities, followed by an icebreaking session on January 21 to help members get acquainted. On January 23, the club conducted a discussion on writing essays and poems on women-centric issues. This was followed by a short film presentation on January 24, featuring Nayantara’s Necklace. A reading session was organized on January 28, and on February 4, the club held a discussion on the Portrayal of Women in Malayalam Films to analyze gender representation in cinema. On February 6, the club presented Muniba Mazari’s speech, intended to be followed by an informal discussion. A motivation session led by club member Manna was conducted on February 7 to help students improve their social skills. On February 11, the club organized a mentoring session to train college-level winners of literary competitions for upcoming university competitions. Additionally, on February 12, Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor, hosted an interdepartmental PowerPoint presentation competition at the college auditorium on the theme Conservation of Wetlands.
