DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

2021-22

 

The activities of Chemistry association during the year 2021-22 have been organised under the guidance of Ms. Aiswariya K R, faculty in-charge of Chemistry Association. Ms. Ashiya Shaji (III B.Sc. Chemistry) is selected as association secretary.The association conducted various enriching programmes to accrete the academic and interpersonal skills of students.

Association activities for the year 2021-22 started off with the reading week celebrations on 23 to 26th June 2021 through online platform. Students conducted various programs such as Treasure Hunt, photography contest, poem and story writing and drawing competitions as a part of reading week celebrations. 

Onam celebrations were conducted through google meet on 20 August 2021. The programme was colourful and fun filled with various games and entertainment activities. Teachers and students of department participated wholeheartedly.

 A documentary was published by our students as part of Ozone day celebrations on 16 September 2021. On 28 September 2021, an orientation programme was conducted for our first year students and parents. 

A green initiative Fresh Salad making by the students of our department was inaugurated by  Dr.Sujo Mary Varghese on 19 November 2021. 

We organized the freshers day for the first year students of the department on 9th  December 2021. Various tasks and games were given to them to showcase their talents.

The Chemistry Association was officially inaugurated on14 December 2021. Dr.Gireesh M K, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Sree SankaraCollege , Kalady was the chief guest. 

Students of our department shared the joy of Christmas on 23 December 2021 by cake cutting, crib making, carol songs etc. And the students also organized a food stall for the students and staff of the college. 

First year and second year students bid a warm farewell to the final year students and to our lab assistant Mr. Jacob Mathew with lunch and entertainment programmes on 25 February 2022.

On the function of celebrating National Science day in the College level, a PowerPoint presentation was given by the students on 28 February 2022 on the topic Green Chemistry.

An industrial visit was conducted to Tea factories in Munnar and Marayoor on 11 March 2022. The final year students and faculties of Department of Chemistry participated.

2020-21

The activities of Chemistry association during the year 2020-21 have been organised under the guidance of Ms. Reshma Mathew, faculty in-charge. Ms. Aiswariya A V (III B.Sc. Chemistry) is selected as association secretary. The activities were inaugurated by releasing a video on social media platform by the students to get awareness on personal hygiene and physical distance during the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

The association conducted various enriching programmes to accrete the academic and interpersonal skills of students. The faculties and Chemistry association members continued preparing alcohol based hand sanitizer in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. These sanitizers were distributed among students of the college during their exam days.

Teacher’s day was celebrated on 5th September 2020 through online platform. Students wished their teachers and conducted a variety of programmes including speeches and poster presentation. Onam celebrations were conducted through Google meet, ‘Onappatu’, ‘Malayali Manga’ competitions were held in this function. The students of the department shared the joy of Christmas on 18 December 2020 by delivering messages and carol songs.

The chemistry association conducted an online professional orientation programme on 01 March 2021, in which the sessions were handled by Dr. Ajith James Jose, Senate member, M.G University, Kottayam.

An industrial visit was conducted to Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Kochi on 24 March 2021, 35 students and 3 faculties of Chemistry department participated in it.

 The students were always motivated to participate in all extra-curricular activities and competitions. The major achievements of the year are as follows:

  • Ms.Abhima Subash of  I B.Sc. Chemistry won the second prize in the intercollege online poster making competition conducted by  Govt. Homoeo hospital Muvattupuzha.
  • Ms. Ameena E A of of I B.Sc. Chemistry won the first prize in the poster making competition conducted by arts club and college union, Mar Thoma College For Women, Perumbavoor.
  • Ms. Asna P A of I B.Sc. Chemistry won the first prize in the photography competition conducted by Department of Chemistry, Mar Toma College For Women,Perumbavoor.
  • Ms. Anagha Ashokan  of I B.Sc. Chemistry won the second prize in the inter-departmental ‘Onappatu’ competition conducted by Department of Commerce, Mar Toma College For Women, Perumbavoor.
  • Ms. Gayathri K.G of I B.Sc. Chemistry won the first prize in the patriotic song competition conducted by Department of Zoology, Mar Thoma College for Women Perumbavoor, second prize on ‘Onappatu’ competition, first prize in the quiz competition and second prize on Malayalam recitation conducted by Department of Physics Mar Thoma College for Women Perumbavoor and also second prize in the photography competition conducted by Department of Chemistry.
  • Five students from the Department of Chemistry have attended and sucessfully completed various certificate courses offered by online education platforms.
