Gender Equity

It has been said that”if you educate a man, you educate one person but when you educate a woman,
you educate the whole family. Thus the visionaries of this institution laid the foundation stone with
this mission of empowering rural women folk. They are very much aware of the fact that Education
is the best tool that gives women the power to choose the way of life she wants to lead. Education
plays a pivotal role in women empowerment. It also helps to put a stop to discrimination based on
gender.
Gender sensitization is the process of transforming men& women’s stereotype mentality,
a mind set that strongly believes men & women are unequal creatures that must operate in separate
socio economic spaces. The goal of gender sensitization is to raise awareness of the relevance of
gender sensitivity in the workplace among working professionals. It provides a clear & exact vision
of gender, assisting in the understanding that ‘GENDER’ is not about women, but rather ‘People ‘.
Gender Equity
The need for gender sensitization has been felt & recognized by everyone at MarThoma
College for Women & actively promoted through several committees & cells. MarThoma college
is committed to the cause of gender equity. Majority of our employees are females & they teach,
manage and lead in education. The institution presents a democratic style, where women are
encouraged to participate & collaborate in decision making.
Our institution proactively works in sensitizing students on gender issues through courses
& outreach programmes.Integration of gender components & aspects into academic programmes
paved the way for creating awareness about gender sensitive behavior among the youth & to
inculcate an egalitarian approach to foster gender parity. Gender issues are prevalent in our society
at all levels. To minimize these gender issues, we need a change in the mindset of the younger
generation as they are those who can bring about further change in society with their innovative
ideas, thoughts & practices.
Gender Sensitisation in Co-Curricular Activities
To achieve that aim, we organize awareness programmes like debates, seminars, symposiums etc
..The NSS, NCC, Subject Associations & Parent Teacher Association(PTA)have also taken
interest in conducting special programmes on gender awareness. The college has appointed an
experienced Lady Consellor to meet students conveniently.Different committees are constituted
with an intention to achieve our mission.Anti-Ragging Committee, Anti-Sexual Harassment
Cell,Internal Complaints Committee,Grievance Redressal Mechanism, Student Grievance
Redressal etc are constituted to address any such issues faced by the students & also aim for the
improvements under the purview of the respective committees. The institution envisions the time
when both men & women would be ready to perceive each other’s needs & act in a more cohesive
way to harness their combined potential.
Safety measures are strictly followed by our college, as part of that CCTVs have been
installed throughout the campus to ensure 24 ×7 surveillance. ID cards are issued to the students
& staff to prevent the entry of outsiders into the college premises. The college provides hostel
facilities for women students & female staff.
Gender equity is a fundamental principle upheld by our institution, and we are dedicated
to promoting it through a range of curricular and co-curricular activities organized by different
departments, the college union, and various clubs.
Gender Sensitisation in curricular Activities.
